When I was growing up my dad worked day and night, and on the weekends. He had a strong work ethic. If he wanted something, he set his sights on it and did not stop until his goals were realized. He is a powerful force of energy. He worked hard to move us into a larger home than the one we were living in.
I felt a sense of stability because I always had a roof over my head. My father did not only provide me a home and food, he also provided me an abundance of self-confidence. I wasn’t always wonderful. But I sure felt like it – and he was the reason.
But there was a time when I got myself in a situation with a group of people who significantly turned their backs to me. But my dad was the only human being who supported me and gave me strength. He brought me to the edge of the cliff and whether I was ready or not, we jumped off the cliff together. My father taught me how to take big leaps into life: don’t be afraid, just take that leap. My dad was everything I could have asked for. Even if he was disappointed he offered unconditional love. Knowing you have support really matters. Knowing that he is a protector was part of the tribe.
I never wanted to disappoint you, Appa! But trust me, I will make you proud one day. I promise!
Happy Birthday Appa!
